Community Outreach

peopleHomestead’s community outreach makes real impacts for dozens of families in our own Hawks community, as well as at our sister school Ponderosa Elementary.  We also support The Ronald McDonald House and Clothes to Kids Denver.

Toiletry Drives to Benefit Ronald McDonald House: This year our toiletry drives will benefit the many families who stay at Ronald McDonald House while their children are receiving care at The Children’s Hospital. Toiletry drive dates: Oct. 22-26, 2018 & March 25-29, 2019.

Backpack Food Program – Food Drives: Food donated during our drives goes directly to children in our Hawk’s community and at Ponderosa, and should be items kids can open on their own. Suggested donations: single servings of mac & cheese, dried fruit, pudding, cereal bowls, raisins, applesauce, fruit cups, breakfast bars, granola bars, oatmeal, non-peanut spread and Ramen Noodles. Gift cards are also accepted! Food drive dates: Sept. 10-14, Nov. 12-16 (canned goods & turkey drive), Feb. 25-March 1 & May 13-17.

Winter Wishes Campaign: Grab a tag from the Winter Wishes board inside the front doors of Homestead to provide gifts for a child in our Hawks community at at Ponderosa this holiday season. Please write your name, phone and email on the sign-up sheet next to the trees. All wrapped (if indicated) gifts are due with the tag attached to the front office the morning of Dec. 10. Dates: Nov. 26-Dec. 10, 2018. Please direct questions to Jackie Sparks at sparksjw@gmail.com.

Homestead’s Fall & Spring Toiletry Drive will benefit The Ronald McDonald House. Many of the families that stay at the House need and appreciate these necessities while their children are receiving medical treatments at The Children’s Hospital. Dates TBD.

Clothes to Kids Denver is a non-profit organization that provides new and quality used clothing to students, aged preschool–12th grade, who come from low-income or in-crisis families in the Denver Metro Area. For many students, inadequate clothing creates a distinction between themselves and their peers. The result can be poor self-esteem and lower academic performance. Clothes to Kids Denver provides students FREE wardrobes that will encourage their success in school. Students can shop twice a year to get a wardrobe of school clothing including 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 1 dress, 5 pairs of new socks, 5 pairs of new underwear, 1 pair of shoes, 1 coat and extras. Homestead will have a semi-permanent bin located near the front of the school for ongoing donations. Homestead has a bin located near the front of the school for ongoing donations. Volunteers are needed to bring donated items to the organization in Denver. Please signup here.
