Community Outreach

This year, our Homestead Elementary School Community Outreach Committee has some great projects in which your entire family can participate. The year will look a little different than years past, but we have more families than ever in need, and we want to try to help out as much as we are able. Below you will see a list of activities to mark on your calendar.

Our projects benefit families in our Hawks’ community, as well as our sister school in the Cherry Creek School District, just 10 miles away from Homestead. The school has over 700 students this year in their K-5 grades and 80% of these kids are on the assisted meal program. We also support the Ronald McDonald House and Clothes to Kids Denver.

Toiletry Drives to Benefit Ronald McDonald House: This year our toiletry drives will benefit the many families who stay at Ronald McDonald House while their children are receiving care at The Children’s Hospital. Toiletry drive dates: Oct. 19-23, 2020 & March 22-26, 2021.

Backpack Food Program – Food Drives: Food donated during our drives goes directly to children in our Hawk’s community and at Ponderosa, and should be items kids can open on their own. Suggested donations: single servings of mac & cheese, dried fruit, pudding, cereal bowls, raisins, applesauce, fruit cups, breakfast bars, granola bars, oatmeal, Slim Jims or similar, non-peanut spread and Ramen Noodles. Canned goods and side dishes are also needed, including items such as soups, canned meat, ravioli, fruit, mashed potatoes, rice, and beans. Gift cards are also accepted! Food drive dates: Sept. 14-18, Nov. 16-20 (canned goods & turkey drive), Feb. 24-28 & May 17-21.

Winter Wishes Campaign: Grab a tag from the Winter Wishes board inside the front doors of Homestead to provide gifts for a child in our Hawks community at our CCSD sister school this holiday season. Please write your name, phone and email on the sign-up sheet next to the trees. All wrapped (if indicated) gifts are due with the tag attached to the front office by the morning of Dec. 10th. Dates: Nov. 23-Dec. 10, 2020. Please direct questions to

Clothes to Kids Denver is a non-profit organization that provides new and quality used clothing to students, aged preschool–12th grade, who come from low-income or in-crisis families in the Denver Metro Area. For many students, inadequate clothing creates a distinction between themselves and their peers. The result can be poor self-esteem and lower academic performance. Clothes to Kids Denver provides students FREE wardrobes that will encourage their success in school. Students can shop twice a year to get a wardrobe of school clothing including 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 1 dress, 5 pairs of new socks, 5 pairs of new underwear, 1 pair of shoes, 1 coat and extras. This year, Homestead will not have a bin for ongoing donations due to Covid restrictions. However, we will hold three clothing drives at the same time as the food drives to benefit this organization. (Sept. 14-18, Nov. 16-20, Feb. 24-28 & May 17-21).
